Bagging it for the Planet – Earth Day April 22, 2010

earth-day-bags-02GROWLS volunteers, cameras in hand, hung out in front of the Village Market on Earth Day. The plan was to photograph the many colourful bags and back packs Gabriolans use to carry their groceries.  Everyone was pleasantly surprised!! Gabriolans who often like to think are slightly ahead of their time proved that plastic is not the way to go.  There were many unique bags and each one seemed to have a story behind it. Many parts of the world were represented as people had traveled and brought back a cloth bag. Qatar, New Zealand, Germany, China, Tahiti, South Africa, Philippines, Japan as well as many parts of Canada and the US. Pictured here is a crazy quilt of shopping bags used on Gabriola.

De-Plastizing the Planet, one bag at a time.
