  2. New Business :
    1. A. GROWLS GUEST SHENA MEADOWCRAFT of the Positive Energy Quilters gave a presentation about The UnspOILed Coast Quilt Project. The purpose of the project is to fundraise for the “ NO TANKERS” campaign, advocating a permanent ban on offshore drilling in BC. The community at large will be invited to use their imaginations to make a quilt square, which will then be made into beautiful quilts raffled off to raise funds. No experience necessary as workshops will be held and several different mediums will be used to make the squares. Several GROWLS members expressed interest in this project.
    2. CASE STUDIES – May and June were reviewed and discussed
    3. NEW DIRECTOR – Canada Revenue Agency requires an organization claiming not for profit to have three Directors. Jean Wyenberg is stepping down so another director or more will be canvassed within the membership. Liz checked with the CRA and there is a 60-day grace period while a new Director is being sought.
    4. RESCUERS, TRANSPORTERS & PAGER PERSONS will be canvassed for availability especially during seal pup season JULY & AUGUST when we are the busiest. This is usually an intense period and expediency is utmost in getting the wee pups safely to a Rehabilitation Centre.
    5. GROWLS RESCUE & INTRODUCTION TO WILDLIFE COURSE – if enough people can agree on the same time frame a course will be offered if not then the course will be offered in late fall.
    6. GRANT APPLICATION – Discussion on items GROWLS could apply for in the form of a grant: camcorder, projector & screen, second pager, safety masks/safety glasses, website updates, storage facility. Directors to have a meeting to pursue the items further and report back to the membership.
